What’s In a Name?

So what's in a name, right? A lot actually. Back in 2014, I took my first trip to Puerto Rico and Danielle (now my wife, Mrs. RumYum) came with me. We started our lengthy trip in Ponce, at the suggestion of a recently "new to our choir" member.

Ponce is a gorgeous, historically important city on Puerto Rico's southern end of the isla. After a long day of traipsing around the main plaza, we were hungry... and more importantly THIRSTY.

On the hunt for a place that had authentic Puerto Rican cuisine and proper mojitos, we wandered into Cafe Lola.

It was there I had one of the best mojitos I've ever had, and also the genesis for a few things that have been important to the creation of this business.

The first is the unfulfilled bargain Danielle and I made that, after we got back to Houston, she'd learn how to make me a proper mojito. She never did, but that's a story for another time.

The second was this. She took a sip of her mojito and said,"Rum. YUM!" I laughed a little, because Danielle and I have an ever-growing vocabulary of words that belong only to us.

"RumYum," I said. "I like it. Sounds like a good name for a rum bar." And to this day, that name and idea has stuck. So much so that when I eventually began learning how to make mojitos and hosting our first Mojito Madness gatherings, I even made menus for my fictional business.

So that's how we got to this point! May your lives be as spirited, friends!

Rum. Refresh. Repeat.
